About me

Hi, I'm David. I'm a software engineer living in Stockholm. I build things, I write about things, trying to give others value.

Building things

I started coding at six (Quick Basic, Turbo Pascal, Visual Basic), got my first paid coding job at 16. Then I worked at PORT.hu and Index.hu (two of Hungary's biggest websites), did a bunch of freelancing on Upwork and elsewhere (50+ Upwork clients, 5.0 (!) rating, was #200 on the platform at one point), and was a technical leader at smaller companies.

In 2015, I co-founded CodeBerry with three friends. We built an online coding school, grew it to 50+ employees, taught 200,000+ students, and raised $1.8M. I was CTO.

After CodeBerry, I joined Sourcegraph where I was a mix of an IC/TL/EM, switching roles with high agency and mostly worked on Cody (the predecessor of Amp), our AI coding assistant. Left in January 2025.

Now I'm on a sabbatical, building Cmdr — an AI-native file manager in Rust, along with some smaller projects.

Life

Before kids, I loved traveling. I hitchhiked a lot in my life, incl. once from Europe to Australia over ~20 months. I walked the Camino de Santiago (800 km). Sat through four 10-day silent Vipassana meditation retreats. With my wife, we lived in a van for six months visiting 42 US states and most national parks.
